Life Begins At The End Of Your Comfort Zone
This blog has been up and running for a year now. It has become a place where I share my experiences on the road to my dream life and everything else that inspires and motivates me. Since I’ve started to follow my heart, my life changed big time. But it only started changing when I started to step outside of my comfort zone. I’ve read that I could only grow if I was willing to feel awkward and uncomfortable at times. I had to face my fears.
“Decide that you want it more than you are afraid of it” – Bill Cosby
I know that everyone of us has a dream, maybe a secret desire somewhere hidden inside of you. Many of us are stuck in our comfort zone. I called it stuck because a comfort zone is a place where you feel save, everything is ‘kinda good’. But is that what we really want? If you can choose between a ‘good’ life or a ‘great’ life, I’m pretty sure that every single one of us will choose for a ‘great’ life. So when we are thinking about how it would be to live our dreams, we are happy. But then we see that we have to put in effort and action, we see that we have to do things that we are afraid off. Then we will say that it is unrealistic for us to happen. That living a dream life is only for some ‘special’ people. Instead of pushing through our fears we will rather settle for things we can live with, we will settle for mediocrity.
In order to live a ‘great’ life we must break out of our current comfort zone and become comfortable with the unfamiliar and the unknown. We must have the courage to face our fears, we have to let go of the familiar. Courage is not the absence of fear but rather the judgment that something else is more important than our fear. Fear is a sign, it’s like a compass that tells you that you are on the right track. Don’t be afraid to expand yourself, the joy and adventure lies outside of your comfort zone.
“Fear is a sign, it’s like a compass that tells you that you are on the right track.”
For example, one of the things that I wanted to do is make Dutch rap. I love hip-hop music and I know that my writing skills are above average. There was only one thing, I didn’t knew anything about making music. I had no ‘flow’ and I didn’t had the best feeling for music rhythm. My mind told me: “STOP, this is nothing for you. Are you crazy? What would people think of you?” But my heart told me to continue, it told me that 50 years from now I didn’t wanted to wonder ‘what if’. I decided that I wanted it more than I’m afraid of it. Six months later I’ve let people hear some of my tracks and the reactions were great, people loved it. It shows me that I made the right decision.
Whoever may read this, I hope that you will follow your heart. Take small steps outside of your comfort zone every day. Do what you really want to do, and not what other people want for you!
